When a battery has actually failed, a boost is a taxi ride rather than a repair. Mobile battery replacement means we arrive with the correct battery for your vehicle, fit it where the car is parked and take the old one away, so the vehicle never has to be recovered to a garage for what is a roadside job.
The part that matters more than the battery itself is fitting it correctly. Modern cars are fussy: the wrong chemistry on a stop start car fails within months, and a replacement that is never registered to the battery monitoring system gets charged as though it were the old worn out one.
Getting the right battery, not just a battery
Physical size and terminal layout are the easy part. The specification underneath matters more, because a car designed around an absorbent glass mat battery will destroy a cheap flooded one, and an underrated cold cranking figure will feel fine in September and fail in January.
- Correct type: flooded, enhanced flooded or absorbent glass mat as the vehicle requires
- Cold cranking amps at or above the manufacturer figure, not below it
- Correct case size, terminal side and hold down arrangement
- Vent routing where the battery sits inside the cabin or boot
- Registration or coding to the battery monitoring system where fitted
Fitted without losing the car's settings
Disconnecting a modern car can lose radio codes, seat memories, steering angle calibration and throttle adaptation. We use a memory saver so the vehicle stays powered while the battery is out, then confirm everything comes back before we go. Boot and under seat installations are normal work, not an obstacle.
Why the old battery failed, checked before we leave
Fitting a battery into a car with a charging fault or a parasitic drain simply gives the fault a fresh victim. Charging output is measured after fitting, and if something is drawing current with the vehicle asleep we will tell you rather than let you find out in a fortnight.
- Charging voltage measured at the terminals with the engine running
- Terminals, clamps and earth straps cleaned and torqued
- Old battery taken away and recycled
- Warranty on the battery supplied, with the paperwork left with you
- Advice on drive patterns if short journeys were the cause
Battery types and where they belong
Fitting the wrong one is the most common cause of a short lived replacement.
| Type | Suits | What goes wrong if it is wrong |
|---|---|---|
| Standard flooded | Older cars with no stop start and modest electrical load | Fine in its place, but fails quickly in a stop start car |
| Enhanced flooded | Entry level stop start systems | Underspecified for heavy regenerative charging on AGM cars |
| Absorbent glass mat | Stop start with regenerative braking, high electrical load | Cheaper substitutes cannot cope with the cycling and fail early |
| Commercial van batteries | Large diesels, heavy cranking loads, ancillary equipment | A car battery in a van gives up in the first cold snap |
Questions
Q.Can you fit a battery at the roadside or does it need a garage?
The great majority are a roadside job, including boot mounted batteries and stop start cars that need the new battery registering. If yours is one of the awkward installations we will say so before we set off.
Q.Do you supply the battery or do I have to buy one first?
We carry stock for common cars and vans and supply the correct type as part of the visit, so there is nothing for you to order or collect beforehand.
Q.Does the new battery need coding to the car?
On most stop start vehicles, yes. The battery monitoring system has to be told a new battery is fitted, otherwise it keeps applying the charging strategy for a worn out one and the replacement never gets a full charge.
Q.What happens to my old battery?
We take it away and it goes for recycling. You do not need to store it or make a trip to the tip.
