Battery Warranty and Aftercare

A battery warranty covers manufacturing defects and premature failure — not a battery that has been flattened repeatedly, worked outside its specification, or destroyed by a charging fault nobody fixed. That distinction is where most warranty disagreements come from, and it is worth understanding before you need it.

Aftercare is straightforward and makes a real difference. Keep the terminals clean and tight, make sure the battery is properly clamped down, give the vehicle a decent run periodically, and use a maintenance charger if it stands for long periods. Those four habits routinely add years.

What this means in practice

  • Keep your fitting record — a warranty claim is far simpler when the date and specification are documented.
  • An unresolved charging fault will damage a new battery and is a common reason a claim is declined.
  • A loose battery vibrating in its tray can suffer internal damage that no warranty will treat as a defect.
  • Short-journey vehicles benefit from an occasional longer run or maintenance charging more than any other measure.
  • We confirm the warranty terms with you at the time of fitting rather than leaving you to discover them later.

Questions we get asked

What voids a battery warranty most often?

Repeated deep discharge, physical or heat damage, incorrect specification, and continuing to use the battery with a known charging fault.

Does a warranty cover the callout to replace it?

That depends on the terms agreed at fitting. We will be explicit about it up front so there is no ambiguity later.

How long should the new battery last?

Three to six years is typical in UK use. Duty cycle, heat and electrical load move it within that range more than brand does.
