No Power At All — No Dash Lights, No Central Locking
Total silence is different from a click or a slow crank. No dashboard, no interior lights, no central locking response means the car is not receiving power at all — the battery is flat beyond the point of lighting a bulb, a main connection has failed, or a main fuse or fusible link has gone.
It is also the situation where people most often assume the worst. In practice, a deeply discharged battery and a corroded terminal account for the large majority of these callouts, and both are fixable at the roadside.

What this means in practice
- Most cars hide a physical key blade in the fob and a keyhole under a cap on the driver's door — worth knowing before you are locked out of your own car.
- We clean and re-torque terminals as standard; a poor clamp can stop everything even with a perfectly good battery behind it.
- Deeply discharged lithium-free lead-acid batteries can drop low enough that some chargers refuse them — a boost pack still works.
- If the main fuse box shows a failure, that is a wiring investigation, not a battery sale, and we will say so.
- Bonnet releases are usually cable-operated and still work with no power, so access is rarely the obstacle people fear.
Questions we get asked
Can I open the bonnet with no electrics?
On almost all cars, yes — the release is mechanical. A small number of vehicles route it differently, and we deal with those regularly.
Will my radio code or settings be lost?
Most modern vehicles retain settings, though clock, radio presets and sometimes window one-touch functions may need resetting. We mention anything that needs re-learning before we leave.
Is a completely dead battery always replaceable on site?
Usually. We carry common fitments and can source others quickly. Where the correct type is not immediately available, we get you started and arrange the right battery rather than fitting the wrong one.
