Stop-start not working is, in most cases, a sign the battery is wearing out. The car still starts, but it switches the feature off to protect you from a no-start at the lights. The fix is a battery test and, if the battery has dropped too far, a matched AGM or EFB replacement registered to the car.
When stop-start refuses to engage, or the dash shows 'stop-start not available', the battery management system has detected the battery no longer holds enough charge to safely restart the engine after auto-off.

Q.Is stop-start not working always a battery problem?
Almost always. Occasionally it's a temperature sensor or aux battery, but the vast majority of cases we see are a tired main battery below its rated capacity.
Q.Can I fit a normal battery to save money?
No, stop-start systems need AGM or EFB. A conventional flooded battery will fail in months and the BMS will flag it immediately.
Q.Do you register the battery to the car?
Yes, every time. Without registration the charging system stays calibrated for the old battery and the new one fails early.
Q.Is it safe to keep driving with stop-start disabled?
The car will normally drive as usual, but the warning means the battery is losing capacity. Left long enough, the next thing is often a morning when it will not start at all, so it is worth having it tested.
Q.Will stop-start come back straight after a new battery?
Often not instantly. Once the new battery is registered, the car usually needs a short drive to relearn its charge level before stop-start re-engages.
