Car Won't Start in Cold Weather?

First frost of the year? A battery already at 60% capacity will fail on a cold morning. Mobile jumpstart and replacement across the West Midlands.

07886 626640 24/7 mobile callout

Cold weather doesn't kill a healthy battery — it exposes a tired one. Capacity drops around 20% at freezing, and if you were already running at 70% you're now well under the cranking amps needed to spin a cold engine.

Our phones don't stop between November and February for exactly this reason. Same-hour callout, load-test on the spot, and either jumpstart or replace from van stock.

What we actually see on these jobs

  • 'It was fine yesterday' is the classic cold-morning signature — the battery was on the edge, the frost pushed it over.
  • Diesels are hit hardest because glow plugs draw current before the starter even engages.
  • Short journeys through winter compound the problem — the alternator never has time to replace what the starter took.

Who calls us for this

Commuters on the first cold morning of the year, parents on the school run, night-shift workers at 5am, and anyone whose car has been sat over Christmas.

How the callout works

Cold-weather no-starts — specific questions

Q.Why does my car keep going flat only when it's cold?

The battery has lost capacity — probably down to 60–70%. Warm weather masks it; cold weather exposes it. A load test will confirm in 30 seconds.

Q.Will a jumpstart fix it or will it just die again?

If the load test shows the battery is healthy but flat, the jumpstart is the fix. If it's failed the test, replacement is the honest answer — we'll tell you which.

Q.How long can you get to me in the cold snap?

We do surge with cold weather. Typically 45–90 minutes across the West Midlands — call as early as you can.

General questions

Q.Do you charge a callout fee just to look?

No blind callout fee. You get a fixed price on the phone based on your postcode and vehicle before we set off — no surprises at the driveway.

Q.Are you insured?

Yes — fully insured with public liability and goods-in-transit on every callout and every battery we fit.

Q.What payment methods do you accept?

Card, contactless, Apple Pay and Google Pay on the driveway. Bank transfer accepted for accounts. No cash-only surprises.
